INTER SCHOOL DRAWING & PAINTING COMPETITION AT DPS BHILAI

 

An Inter School Drawing and Painting Competition was held on 14th November, 2011 at DPS Risali Sector Campus. The students from BSP Senior Secondary School, Sector-4, BSP Senior Secondary School, Sector-7, BSP Senior Secondary School, Sector-10, Krishna Public School, Bhilai, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Borai, Durg, Ma Sarda Public School, Sector-9, Shri Shankaracharya Vidyalaya, Sector-6, Yugchetna Public School, Junwani, Bhilai,  and the host school DPS Bhilai participated in the same. In order to encourage maximum participation, the students of classes I to XII were divided into five groups. The students exhibited their artistic flair and their creations were scrutinized by the distinguished judges i.e. Mr. Ajay Deshkar, Art Teacher, DPS, Raipur, Mr. Prakash Chandra, Art Teacher, Krishna Public School, Raipur and Mrs. Vandana Pargania, Art Teacher, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dongargarh and the groupwise results were declared as follows:

DPS Bhilai won accolades for winning the first position but being the host school did not compete for the Rolling Shield, which was awarded to Krishna Public School, the second position winner.

 

Inter School English Debate at DPS Bhilai

 

An Inter School English Debate was organised at the Maroda Sector School Complex of DPS Bhilai on 1st October, 2011. The Chief Guest to grace the occasion was Mrs. M. Kannambal, Co-opted Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & HOD – English, Kalyan College, Bhilai. The distinguished panel of judges of the debate comprised - Mrs. Anita Narula, HOD - English, Bhilai Mahila Mahavidyalaya,
Dr. Tapas Mukherjee, HOD - English, Govt. College, Bhilai-3 and Mrs. Nisha Soni, AGM (Personnel), BSP, Bhilai.

The topic for the debate was “WE HAVE A DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM WITHOUT DEMOCRATIC VALUES”. Apart from the host school, the schools which participated in the debate were Aditya Birla Public School, Grasim Vihar, Raipur, BSP Sr. Sec. School Sector-7, BSP Sr. Sec. School Sector-10, DAV Public School, Hudco, DAV Public School, ACC Jamul and Vishwadeep Sr. Sec. School, Durg. The programme commenced with the presentation of floral tokens to the distinguished invitees followed by the Lighting of the Lamp. The Principal Mr. M.P. Yadav accorded a cordial welcome to the Chief Guest, the judges and other invitees.

The Debate began with the reading out of the rules and regulations. It was a keenly contested competition and revealed the intellectual and oratorical skills of the participants.  At the end of the Debate Mrs. Nisha Soni shared her views with the gathering. She expressed her pleasure at being present on this occasion and thanked the Principal for inviting her to be a part of the programme. She congratulated the participants for their carefully researched and rehearsed performance and she advised those who hadn’t done well not to be discouraged. She put forward the view that change was the order of the day and definitely there are positive aspects in our democractic system.

The results were declared by Mrs. Anita Narula. Speaking in favour of the motion, the first prize was won by Shruti Jain of DPS Bhilai, Namrata Singh of BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10, was awarded the second prize and the third prize went to Kajal Singh of BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-7. Speaking against the motion, the first prize was shared between Shubham Jain of DPS Bhilai and Abhishek Bhowmick of BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10. The third prize was awarded to Ashutosh Padhee of DAV Public School, Hudco. On the basis of the total points scored DPS Bhilai stood first. However, being the host school it did not compete for the Rolling Shield which was lifted by BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest began by congratulating the Principal, Mr. M.P. Yadav for his achievements and awards. She then congratulated all the members of the faculty and students for their contribution to the success of the school. She further congratulated all the participants of the debate for their clearly presented arguments for and against the topic. She narrated interesting and motivational anectodes to explain the concept of responsibility. She concluded by appealing to the youngsters to put in their 100% while doing their work and urged them to retain their values. She was of the opinion that democracy existed and democratic values would be sustained in the future too.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Ranjana Yadav, Vice Principal. The programme ended with the National Anthem.

  SHRI BRIJMOHAN AGRAWAL GRACES TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATIONS AT DPS BHILAI
  Teachers’ Day was celebrated on 5th September, 2011 at the Risali Sector School Complex. The revered Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri Brijmohan Agrawal, Hon’ble Minister - P.W.D., School Education, Endowment, Culture, Legislative Affairs and Tourism Development, Govt. of Chhattisgarh. The other distinguished guests who graced the programme were Shri S.K. Jain, Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & G.M. (T.A.), BSP, Bhilai, Shri Sunil Mehta, Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & D.G.M. (F & A), BSP, Bhilai, Smt. M. Kannambal, Co-opted Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & HOD-English, Kalyan Mahavidyalaya, Sector-7, Bhilai, Dr. Aditya Methi, Co-opted Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai and other distinguished personalities.
The programme commenced with the presentation of floral tokens to the Chief Guest and other distinguished invitees. This was followed by the Lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp and garlanding of the portrait of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. The Principal Shri M.P. Yadav then welcomed the elite gathering. The Hon’ble Chief Guest presented mementos to the members of the staff.
The Chief Guest in his speech expressed his pleasure at being present on this occasion. He extended his congratulations to the Principal for being conferred with the Rajya Shikshak Samman Smriti Puraskar 2011 instituted in the name of “Shri Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh” by Directorate of Public Instructions, Govt. of Chhattisgarh. He also extended his congratulations for yet another remarkable achievement – Delhi Public School, Bhilai being India’s First Ranked Day School for Academic Reputation for second successive year–2010-11. He said that in this age of globalization, the task of guiding students on the right path was a challenging one. He exhorted the students to respect their teachers. He concluded by extending his good wishes to the school in all future endeavours.

To mark the occasion, there was a short cultural programme presented by the teachers comprising Group Songs by Pre-Primary Wing and Senior School teachers as well as Group Dances by Primary Wing and Senior School teachers. The Senior School students also presented a Chhattisgarhi Folk Dance. The Vote of Thanks, proposed by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Ranjana Yadav followed by the National Anthem brought this memorable afternoon to an end.

 

XXV INTER-SCHOOL HINDI DEBATE AT DPS BHILAI

An Inter-School Hindi Debate Competition was held at Delhi Public School, Bhilai on 3rd September, 2011 at its Maroda Sector School Complex. The Hon’ble Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. A.K. Sharma, Co-opted Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Durg. The panel of distinguished judges comprised Mr. Amar Sawant, PRO, Environmental Conservation Board, Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Dr. Sudhir Sharma, HOD-Hindi, Kalyan College, Sector-7, Bhilai and Mr. Ashok Singhai, Ex-Public Relations Officer, BSP,
The topic for the debate was, “Economic Reforms have a positive impact on the economy of a country”. The schools that participated were Aditya Birla Public School, Grasim Vihar, Raipur; Bhilai Vidyalaya, Sector-2; Bhilai Nair Samajam School, Sector-8; BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10, Bhilai; DAV Public School, ACC Jamul; DAV Public School, Hudco; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Durg; Krishna Public School, Bhilai; Senior Secondary School, Sector-4; Shankaracharya Vidyalaya, Hudco; Shri Shankara Vidyalaya, Sector-10 and the host school Delhi Public School, Bhilai.
The programme commenced with the Lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp which was followed by the Principal Shri M.P. Yadav’s Welcome Address to the elite audience. At the end of the keenly contested debate the Chief Guest and the judges were impressed with the oratorical skills and the succint arguments put forward by the participants both in favour and against the topic.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ashok Singhai praised the participants for their attempts at dealing with such a complex issue. He said that inspite of the various views put forward by the contestants, the truth had to be perceived beyond the obvious and one must learn to “Face the hidden truth beyond the mirror”.
Dr. Sudhir Sharma praised the participants and said that he found the contest an enjoyable and interesting experience. He also recited some lines from his poem.
Mr. Amar Sawant appreciated the discipline shown by the students of class VIII who comprised the audience, during the programme. He explained the difference between a ‘Speech’ and a ‘Debate’ and said that a debate ought not to be too well rehearsed or else it lost its spontaneity. He advised the participants to repose confidence in themselves while presenting their views. He then formally declared the results - Speaking in favour of the motion – the third prize was won by Akanksha Sharma of BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10, the second prize was bagged by Akanksha Sharma of Shri Shankaracharya Vidyalaya, Hudco and the first prize was won by Aditi Prakash Bansod of Delhi Public School, Bhilai. Speaking against the topic, the third prize was won by Sakshi Raghav of Aditya Birla Public School, Grasim Vihar, Raipur; Aishwarya Sarkar of DAV Public School, Hudco stood second and the first prize was won by Siddhant Kr. Jain of Delhi Public School, Bhilai. On the basis of total points scored DPS Bhilai stood first but being the host school did not compete for the Rolling Shield which was awarded to DAV Public School, Hudco.
The Chief Guest in his speech congratulated all the winners of the competition and complimented all the participants. He urged those who had lost not to be disheartened by their defeat. He expressed his gratitude to the Principal for inviting him to grace the programme as the Chief Guest and extended his good wishes for all future endeavours.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Neelam Pandey of the Deptt. of Hindi, Delhi Public School, Bhilai and the programme concluded with the National Anthem.

 

XXVI Foundation Day Celebrations of Delhi Public School, Bhilai

The XXVI Foundation Day of Delhi Public School, Bhilai was celebrated on 20th August, 2011 at the Risali Sector School Complex. The day began with the entry of the bright and enthusiastic participants of the Rangoli, Flower and Salad Decoration competitions organised by the Deptt. of Home Science. The highlight of the day was the magnificent exhibition put up by the Middle Wing students which was inaugurated by Shri Vijay Kumar Gupta, Managing Director, Beekay Engineering Corporation, Bhilai. The topic for Class VI was Art and Dance Forms of the World. Sections A, B & C depicted the Art and Dance Forms of Asia and Australia. Sections D, G & F displayed the Art and Dance Forms of America and Africa while sections E, H & I showcased the Art and Dance Forms of Europe. Each room was a veritable feast for the eyes and transported one into a land of visual pleasure. A Healthy Diet was the topic for Class VII. Sections A, B & C had as their theme Junk Food and elaborated all other related aspects such as its poor nutritional value and other ill effects. Sections E, F & I focussed on Balanced Diet and explained its nutritional value, the benefits of health food and the components of a modified diet. Section D, G & H elaborated on Adulteration of Food and Food Borne Diseases. Among the other issues explained were test for adulterants and causative agents etc. The importance of ‘Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy’ was beautifully brought out by the informative displays of the students whose painstaking research into all aspects of food and nutrition was clearly evident. Class VIII had chosen the theme – Application of Science in Everyday Life. Sections A, B & H showed how Physics came into use in simple day to day activities. Sections D, E & F revealed the uses of Chemistry and sections C, G & I focussed on Biology. Impressive displays were put up by the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computers, Home Science, Art, Geography, the English Language Lab, Mathematics Lab and the Resource Centre. A Philately Exhibition was also organised. The Chief Guest appreciated the creativity and ingenuity of the ‘young ignited minds’.

The Chief Guest for the Prize Distribution Ceremony followed by the Cultural Programme was Prof. B.P. Khandelwal, Chairman, SMC, DPS, Bhilai & Member, Working Committee, the DPSS, New Delhi. The other distinguished guests who graced the programme were Shri K.K. Singh, Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & D.G.M. (Education), BSP, Bhilai, Smt. & Shri H.R. Choudhury, Member Secretary, SES, Bhilai & D.G.M. (P – M & R), BSP, Bhilai, Shri R.C. Singh, Co-opted Members, SMC, DPS, Bhilai & Ex-Chief Education Officer, BSP, Bhilai.

The function commenced with the presentation of bouquets to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The Chief Guest then lit the Ceremonial Lamp to the accompaniment of an invocation which heralded an auspicious start to the function. The Principal, Shri M.P. Yadav accorded a warm welcome to the august gathering, in his address and presented the Annual Report for the session 2010-’11. The School Magazine – DIPSVIEW 2010-’11 was formally relased by the Chief Guest. This was followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony wherein meritorious students were awarded for their academic excellence.

The Chief Guest in his speech expressed his pleasure at being present on this day of celebration of the 26th Foundation Day of the School. He congratulated everyone associated with the school and said that 26 years were a long time in the history of an institution. He recalled with a tinge of nostalgia his pleasant association with the school and reminisced about his acquaintance with the Principal Shri M.P. Yadav, ever since he took over the stewardship of the school. He complimented the Principal not only for his being conferred the prestigious National Award to Teachers (NAT) - 2009 by the Hon’ble President of India but also in leading DPS Bhilai from strength to strength. He also said that this long journey wouldn’t have been such a resounding success without the cooperation and support of the parents and the members of the local managing committee of Bhilai Steel Plant and the members of the faculty. He said that he was happy to note that students of DPS Bhilai were making a mark not only in academics but also in sports, games and cocurricular activities. He added that the institution needed to constantly keep abreast with the changing times and that “Digitalization” was the order of the day. He concluded his speech by extending his good wishes to all present.

The cultural programme began with a melodious performance by Salil S. Pendharkar, followed by the Welcome Song, sung by the choir of the Primary Wing. The song was composed by Mrs. Sarbani Banerjee. The English Play “The Never – Never Nest” was a comic story about a young couple who buys things on instalments and takes further loans to repay loans thus getting stuck in a vicious cycle. The play was directed by Mrs. Vasantha Adhikarla and assisted by Mr. D.K. Choudhary, Mrs. Priya C. Peri & Mrs. Sudipta Sarkar. The Hindi One Act Play “Katha Shree Mangal Amangal Ki” was a comic spoof on the violation of traffic rules and haphazard traffic on the roads. The play was written by Mrs. Neena Mehta, directed by Mr. Mahendra Thakre and assisted by Mr. Dilip Kr. Pandey. The grand finale was the Fusion Dance – an amalgamation of Rajasthani and Punjabi Folk Dances. This was choreographed by Mrs. Lathika Rajan.

Musical interludes were provided by Vipul Dhanwani of Class IX-B on the Violin, accompanied by Siddhant Tiwari of Class X-D on the synthesizer, and Karan Muley of Class X-H, M.V. Bharadwaj of Class XI-D and Abhishek Dey of Class XI-G on the Guitar.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Ranjana Yadav and the programme concluded with the National Anthem.
 

INTER SCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION AT DPS, BHILAI

The 16th Inter School Quiz Competition was held at DPS, Bhilai in the Maroda Sector School Complex on 16th July, 2011. The Hon’ble Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri K.K. Singh, Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai & D.G.M. (Education), Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai.

The schools that participated in the contest after the preliminary selection round were Shri Shankaracharya Vidyalaya, Hudco, team members comprising Aishwarya Singh and Sourabh Jain, BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10, team members – Deepita Keshari and Tanmay Thomas, Sri Sankara Vidyalaya, Sector-10, represented by Anurag Anand and Pradeep Baurai and the host school DPS Bhilai, represented by Shashwat Vijay Mairal and Sarvesh Kumar Shukla.

The programme commenced with the Lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp accompanied by an invocation. This was followed by the Principal Mr. M.P. Yadav’s Welcome Address wherein he introduced the Hon’ble Chief Guest to the audience. The quiz was conducted by
Mr. Suman Kumar Tripathi and Mr. N. Iyangar Pillai whose quizzing acumen considerably enlivened the proceedings. The quiz comprised 4 rounds - Foundation, Echoes (an audio round), Windows (a visual round) and Rapid Fire.

The Chief Guest in his Address expressed his pleasure at being present on the occasion. He praised the performance of the participants and said that a quiz was an interesting method of gaining knowledge. He said that he had spent, ‘an engrossing time’. He added that the quiz was an excellent blend of entertainment and information – “true infotainment”. He praised the effort of the Quizmasters Mr. Suman Kr. Tripathi and Mr. N. Iyangar Pillai in putting up such a wonderful show. He concluded by saying that it was a very well organised programme and a benchmark for other schools to follow. He then awarded the Participation Certificates and the Winners’ Prizes.

The competition was won by DPS Bhilai but being the host school it did not compete for the Rolling Shield which was awarded to Sri Sankara Vidyalaya, Sector-10, Bhilai.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Bindu Mockoul, Activity Incharge and the programme concluded with the National Anthem.
 
 

VANMAHOTSAV AND INVESTITURE CEREMONY

DPS Bhilai celebrated Vanmahotsav and Investiture Ceremony on 1st July, 2011 at the Risali Sector School Complex. The Hon’ble Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri Amit Kumar, I.P.S., Senior Superintendent of Police, Durg District.

The Morning Assembly began with the Welcome Address of the Principal
Shri M.P. Yadav, followed by the presentation of floral tokens. Regular prayers, thought for the day and news were also part of the celebration.

The Special Assembly on the occasion of Van Mahotsav was organised by Jhelum House which reiterated the importance of trees and afforestation through the recitation of a poem and a song. The Hon’ble Chief Guest and the Principal were presented with saplings on this occasion.

The School and House Appointees were administered the Oath by the Principal and the House Wardens respectively and thereafter the School and House flags were handed over to them. The Hon’ble Chief Guest presented them with the School and House Badges.

The Chief Guest in his speech expressed his pleasure at being present on the occasion. He said that the future of the country depended on the youth. He exhorted the students to remember John F. Kennedy’s words, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. He also spoke on the advantages of choosing a career in the Civil Services and said that it was a wonderful opportunity to serve one’s country. There was also an Interactive Session with the Chief Guest wherein students asked him questions related to the Civil Services.

The Head Boy Abhiraj Tiwari too expressed his emotions on this occasion and pledged to serve the school with devotion and dedication.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Head Girl G. Drushti Apoorva and the programme came to an end with the National Anthem, after which the Chief Guest was escorted to plant a sapling in the school campus to commemorate this momentous day.
 
     
 

DPS BHILAI HOSTS ANNUAL INTER-DPS VOCAL MUSIC FESTIVAL 2011 (SOUTH AND CENTRAL ZONE)

DPS Bhilai had the privilege of hosting the Annual Inter-DPS Vocal Music Festival, 2011 (South & Central Zone) on 9th April. The Hon’ble Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri S.K. Gulati, E.D. (F & A), Bhilai Steel Plant, Bhilai. The programme was also graced by the distinguished presence of Shri D.M. Jaltare, G.M. (Projects), BSP & Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai and Co-opted members,  SMC, DPS Bhilai - Shri R.C. Singh, Ex-Chief Education Officer, BSP, Dr. A.K. Sharma, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Dr. Aditya Methi as well as other dignitaries.

The participants in alphabetical order were from Delhi Public Schools in Bhilai, Bhopal, Durg, Indore, Korba, Raipur, Secunderabad & Visakhapatnam. The esteemed panel of judges from Kamala Devi Sangit Mahavidyalaya, Raipur comprised Dr. M. Shriram Murthy, Principal, Mr. N.D. Kehri, Lecturer - Music and Mr. Arun Soni, Lecturer - Percussion Instrument.

The function commenced with the presentation of floral tokens to the honoured guests. This was followed by Lighting the Ceremonial Lamp to the accompaniment of an invocation. The Principal Mr. M.P. Yadav welcomed the gathering.

In his address, the Chief Guest expressed his pleasure at being present on this occasion. He emphasised the importance of cocurricular activities and sports. He concluded by wishing the participants good luck for the competition.

The programme was divided into two categories – The Solo Song Competition and Group Song. In the Solo Song Competition the 1st Position was won by DPS Bhilai, the 2nd Position was awarded to DPS Durg and the 3rd Position was won by DPS Indore. In the Group Song Competition the 1st Position was won by DPS Bhilai, the 2nd Position was awarded to DPS Indore and the 3rd Position was won by DPS Durg. On the basis of overall points scored the Runners-up Trophy was awarded to DPS Durg and the coveted Winner’s Trophy was lifted by DPS Bhilai. The Participation Certificates and Trophies were awarded by the Hon’ble Chief Guest.

On this occasion there was a short cultural programme presented by the host school, comprising a Spanish Dance and a solo performance on the tabla.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. M. Shriram Murthy eulogized the DPS chain of schools. He congratulated the winners and urged those who had not won, not to be demoralised as winning and losing were both part of the game. He complimented all the participants for putting up a wonderful performance.

The programme moved towards its finale with the Vote of Thanks by the Vice Principal
Mrs. R. Yadav and concluded with the National Anthem.

XXV Annual Open Day of Pre-Primary Wing : Classes Nursery & Prep.,
DPS Bhilai Celebrated

The XXV Annual Open Day Celebrations of classes Nursery and Prep were held on Saturday, the 12th March, 2011 amidst an atmosphere of merriment and revelry. The Risali Sector School Campus was dazzlingly decorated on this momentous occasion. The Hon’ble Chief Guest for the evening was Shri S. Shekar, G.M. (S.Ps. & O.H.P), BSP & Pro-Vice Chairman, SMC, DPS Bhilai. The other distinguisted invitees whose gracious presence added grandeur to the programme were Smt. & Shri Amit Kumar, I.P.S., Senior Superintendent of Police, Durg District and Shri R.C. Singh, Ex-Chief Education Officer & Coopted Member, SMC, DPS Bhilai.

The festivities of the evening commenced with the traditional ceremony of Lighting the Lamp to the accompaniment of an invocation. The Principal Shri M.P. Yadav extended a cordial welcome to the elite gathering. The Annual Report of the activities of classes Nursery and Prep was presented by the Sr. Mistress, Pre-Primary Wing, Mrs. Monita Karamchandani. This was followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony wherein the little ones were awarded for their remarkable attainments.

The Chief Guest in his speech expressed his pleasure at being present on the occasion of the celebration of the Annual Open Day of the Pre-Primary Wing : Classes  Nursery & Prep. He eulogised the efforts of the Principal, Mr. M.P. Yadav as an architect of the school, who has led the school into pre-eminence at the national level. He also mentioned the fact that for today’s smart kids, both academic knowledge and survival skills must be imparted and stress must be on developing the holistic personality of the students. He concluded by congratulating the Principal and the Members of the Staff on this grand occasion and wished them good luck for their future endeavours.

The cultural bonanza began with the dulcet voice of Ishaan of class : Prep - A, as he recited a poem expressing his gratidude towards his parents. 38 students of
class : Prep - E, expressed their sentiments towards their school through their musical presentation. This choir was trained by Mrs. Alpana Gupta and Mrs. Shubha J. Varghese. “Dancing Toes” was the presentation put up by 116 students of class : Prep - D, F & G and set the seal of entertainment for the evening. The dancers were trained by Mrs. Chitraparna Sengupta, Mrs. Renu Sharma & Mrs. Shilpa Tatiya. Vinita Vinod of
class : Nursery - I enchanted the audience with her golden voice. She was accompanied by Anubha Paresh of class : Prep - G on the synthesizer. 115 children of class : Nursery - A, D & F depicted the progress made in the society with the invention of the wheel through their rhythmic presentation “Chakke Ka Chakkar”. The students were trained by Mrs. Sunanda Bajaj, Mrs. Sonali Parwana, Mrs. Shreeti Das & Mrs. Mrunmayee Mishra. 114 cherubic angels of class : Nursery G, H & I revealed the priceless value of true friendship through their presentation “Khushiyon Ke Pal Doston Ke Sang”. This was choreographed by Mrs. Adipti Chakraborty, Mrs. Rashmi Anupam Kumar and
Mrs. A. Vaidehi. 76 bright and enthusiastic faces brought a smile to everyone’s faces through their presentation “Udaan”. They were trained by Mrs. Seema Jha and Mrs. Seema Dey. 114 students of class : Prep - C, H & I brought forth the glory, colour, gaiety and excitement of Indian festivals through their presentation “Festivals of India”. This was choreographed by Mrs. Renu Jaiswal, Mrs. Sheetal Mishra, Mrs. Indu Joshi &
Mrs. Suparna Das. “Holidays are Fun”, was the presentation by 113 sparkling and scintillating students of class : Nursery - B, C & E which revealed the enjoyment that holidays bring to everyone. The students were trained by Mrs. Rajshree Dutta,
Mrs. C. Manjusha, Mrs. Rashmi Prasad & Mrs. Archana S. Jashwant.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Vice Principal Mrs. Ranjana Yadav and the programme concluded with the National Anthem.

XXV Annual Open Day of Pre-Primary Wing : Class I - DPS Bhilai Celebrated

The XXV Annual Open Day of the Pre-Primary Wing : Class I of DPS Bhilai was celebrated on Friday, the 11th March, 2011 in the beautifully bedecked Risali Sector School Campus. The Hon’ble Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri Amit Kumar, I.P.S., Senior Superintendent of Police, Durg District. The glorious programme was also graced by the illustrious presence of Smt. Aparajita Agarwal, Shri D.M. Jaltare, G.M. (Projects), BSP & Member, SMC DPS Bhilai, Dr. A.K. Sharma, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Durg & Coopted Member, SMC DPS Bhilai, Shri I.P. Mishra, President, Gangajali Educational Academy and other dignitaries.

The Lighting of the Lamp, to the accompaniment of an invocation heralded an auspicious start to the festivities of the evening. The Principal Shri M.P. Yadav accorded a warm welcome to the august gathering. The Annual Report of the activities of class I was presented by Mrs. Monita Karamchandani, Sr. Mistress, Pre-Primary Wing. This was followed by the prize giving ceremony, wherein the tiny tots received awards for their commendable achievements.

Speaking on this memorable occasion, the Chief Guest in his address expressed his pleasure at being present on the Silver Jubilee Open Day Celebrations of the Pre-Primary Wing : Class I. He appreciated the optimum participation of the students that gave each budding talent a wide scope to blossom to its fullest potential. He concluded by praising the effort of the visionary Principal Shri M.P. Yadav, the committed faculty, the highly cooperative parents and hardworking students for furthering the cause of education in the Steel City and extended his best wishes to all in their future endeavours.

The cultural extravaganza began with a short satirical poetic verse recited by Prashasti Pathak of class : I - I. 43 children from I - C, H & I transported one into a land of fairies and angels with their melodious rendition of “I have a dream”. The choir was trained by Mrs. Alpana Gupta and Mrs. Suparna Das. 81 students of class : I - C, H & I presented “Jeevan Ki Reet Hausle Ki Jeet” which propounded the message that one should never lose hope, no matter what trials and challenges life threw at one, as sometimes these challenges turn out to be blessings in disguise. The students were trained by Mrs. Mona Tiwari, Mrs. Sushmita Moitra & Mrs. Sonia Ulphas. 80 students of class : I - A & D presented “Down the Memory Lane” a treasure trove of memories of fun and laughter that one shared with friends and cherished forever. The children were trained by Mrs. Meetali Bandopadhyay and Mrs. K. Prasuna. 80 children of class : I - F & G tried to discover their aspirations in their presentation “Kaash Aisa Hota”. The tiny tots were trained by Mrs. Meenakshi Paul and Mrs. Purnima Sahu. The grand finale of this magnificent evening was a presentation by 80 students of class : I - B & E titled “Vibrant India” a breathtaking medley of foot tapping Indian dances. The dance was choreographed by Mrs. Pamela Henry & Mrs. Jyoti A. Nair.

This entrancing evening drew to a close with the Vote of Thanks proposed by the Vice Principal Mrs. Ranjana Yadav and the programme concluded with the National Anthem.

XXV Annual Open Day of Primary Wing of DPS Bhilai Celebrated

The XXV Annual Open Day of the Primary Wing of DPS Bhilai was celebrated on 5th February, 2011 at the Risali Sector School Complex. The dazzling day began with the inauguration of the Annual Exhibition by Shri Thakur Ram Singh, I.A.S., Collector - Durg Distt. The theme of the Exhibition put up by the students of Classes II and III was “Trip to A Kid’s World” which revealed the world of fun, frolic and fantasy inhabited by kids. Classes II A, B and C presented the world of entertainment – ‘Circus and Magic Show’ - a treat for kids and adults alike. Classes II D, E and F focussed on ‘Zoos and Aquariums’ and delivered the message “Preserve, protect and conserve wild life”. Classes II G, H and I took one on a trip to ‘Disneyland and Toyland’, making one forget the reality of the present as one was transported into a land of pure fantasy and fiction.

Classes III A, B and C had ‘Parks and Playgrounds’ as their theme that aimed at relaxing and refreshing young minds, while Classes III D, E and F focussed on ‘Malls and Museums’ providing an enjoyable and educative experience. Classes III G, H and I had ‘Fairs and Exhibitions’ for its topic with real games, toys and a carousel to add to the fun.

The theme of the Exhibition put up by Classes IV and V was ‘Glimpses of Chhattisgarh’. Classes IV A, B and C took one around ‘Rajnandgaon, Kanker and Ratanpur’ revealing its myriad treasures, Classes IV D, E and F escorted one through ‘Korba, Raigarh and Korea’ highlighting all their special features and Classes IV G, H and I made one visit ‘Kawardha, Raipur and Jashpur’ and showcased their glories. Classes VA, B and C revealed the wonders of ‘Bastar, Sarguja and Janjgir-Champa’ while Classes V D, E and F made one explore the familiar territories of ‘Mahasamund, Durg and Bilaspur’. Classes V G, H and I took one on a trip to ‘Dantewada, Champaran and Mallhar’. Each room was a treasure trove of the specialities of the region and showcased its art, craft, music and rich cultural heritage. The Rangoli and Flower arrangements were a blaze of colours. The Art and Craft Exhibitions depicted the dexterity of young hands and minds working in tandem. The Resource Room, the Computer Lab and the Maths Lab revealed the intellectual flair of young, scientific and creative minds.

The sparkling evening commenced with a warm welcome being accorded to the Chief Guest, Shri M.K. Bindu, E.D. I/c. (Mines), BSP, Bhilai & Chairman, Steel Education Society, Bhilai. The programme was also graced by the illustrious presence of Shri S. Shekar, Pro-Vice Chairman, SMC, DPS Bhilai & G.M. (S.Ps. & O.H.P.), BSP, Bhilai, Shri K. Vinod Kujur, Addl. Dist. Judge, Durg and other eminent personalities.

The programme began on a ceremonial note with the Lighting of the Lamp by the Hon’ble Chief Guest. The Principal Shri M.P. Yadav delivered the Welcome Address. The Head Mistress – Primary Wing, Mrs. Lipika Banerjee presented the Annual Report of the activities of the Primary Wing. This was followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony wherein meritorious students were awarded for their excellence.

The Pro-Vice Chairman began his speech by expressing his pleasure at being present on the occasion. He congratulated all the prize winners and urged them, ‘to keep the flag of DPS Bhilai flying high.’ He eulogized the effort of the Principal Shri M.P. Yadav and the members of the faculty in ensuring that DPS Bhilai occupied a ‘place of pride’ in India among the best educational institutions.

The Chief Guest in his address expressed his happiness at being present for the celebration of the Open Day of the Primary Wing. He congratulated the Principal Shri M.P. Yadav and the members of the Staff for having made DPS Bhilai into a “premier educational institution, among the best in the country and credited them with having created a “temple of learning”. He concluded his address by expressing his good wishes to the Principal and the Staff for their future endeavours towards training the students for a bright future.

The cultural feast began with the Welcome Song. The song was composed by Mrs. Gouri Sengupta, assisted by Mrs. Shinee Samuel in which 40 melodious voices greeted the guests. Nrityanjali – a dance invoking Ma Saraswati – the Goddess of Learning was choreographed by Mrs. Art S. Malik, assisted by Mrs. Gouri Kumar. Happy Days – choreographed by Mrs. Chhaya Sarkar, Mrs. Nidhi Shivappa, Mrs. Aparna Roychoudhary and Mrs. Swastika Shukla, was a beautiful, foot tapping, energetic and effervescent dance performance. The English Play, “The Magic Carpet” depicting the universal philosophy that “truth alone prevails” was directed by Mrs. Sarbani Banerjee, Mrs. Shikha Ghoshal and assisted by Miss Vedasmrita Das. The grand finale was a mesmerizing folk dance from Chhattisgarh “Mahua Jhaare” choreographed by Mrs. Jyotsna Verma and Mrs. Priya Agrawal. Rishabh Kalgaonkar of class III C beguiled the audience with his melodious rendition of “Maula Mere Maula” and Shashwat Chakraborty of class III B entertained the gathering with his “Aam Admi Ki Dastaan”. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Vice Principal Mrs. Ranjana Yadav and the National Anthem brought this entrancing evening to an end.

GRACES ANNUAL SPORTS DAY AT DPS BHILAI

The crisp and clear afternoon of 23rd December, 2010 witnessed the celebration of the XXVI Annual Sports Day of DPS Bhilai at the lush green environs of the Maroda Sector School Campus. The Chief Guest for this gala occasion was Shri Brijmohan Agrawal, Hon’ble Minister – School Education, P.W.D., Endowment, Culture, Legislative Affairs and Tourism Development. The other distinguished guests who graced the programme were Smt. & Shri Amit Kumar, I.P.S., Superintendent of Police, Durg Distt., Shri S. Shekar, G.M. (S.Ps. & O.H.P.), BSP & Pro-Vice Chairman, SMC, DPS Bhilai and other members of SMC, DPS Bhilai – Shri D.M. Jaltare, G.M. (Projects), BSP, Shri R.C. Singh, Ex-Chief Education Officer, BSP, Dr. A.K. Sharma, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Durg amongst others.

The programme commenced with the Welcome Address by the Principal, Shri M.P. Yadav. The Sports Meet was formally declared ‘Open’ by the Chief Guest, followed by the release of pigeons and balloons. Crackers were burst and the Sports Day got off to a thundering start. The Sports Secretaries completed the track run and then lit the flame. The Chief Guest inspected the contingents of the various Houses and a magnificent March Past was performed by students of classes IX to XII in which Yamuna House was adjudged the best.

The guests were treated to a spectaular field display by the Pre-Primary, Primary and Middle Wing students. 343 students of Nursery captured the hearts of the gathering with their presentation “Chhoti Si Aasha” that explained “A child is a butterfly in the wind, some can fly higher than others, but each one flies the best it can”. 700 students of Prep and Class I inspired the guests with patriotism as they presented “Mera Pyaara Watan, Mera Pyaara Chaman” and endeared themselves to one and all as they pledged to keep the school flag flying high, bring honour and glory to their Alma Mater and becoming worthy citizens of “Mera Bharat Mahaan”. 750 students of Classes II & III attired in bright and colourful costumes reflected the feeling of pride they had in their hearts for the National Flag in their presentation “Tirange Ki Shaan”. 750 students of Classes IV & V, dressed in the myriad hues of the rainbow set the field ablaze with their wide variety of rhythmic exercises clubbed with the dance steps and enraptured the guests with the spirit of joy and happiness through their presentation “Riot of Colours”. This was followed by a presentation by 567 Middle Wing Boys “Yogaerobics” an amalgamation of Yoga and modern dance techniques. “India Surging Ahead”, the presentation by 467 Middle Wing Girls was a humble endeavour to pay homage to the National Flag that symbolizes the heartbeat of the Nation.

The highlight of this special occasion was the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Jaydeep Roy of Class XI-I, Chenab House won the title of Best Boy Athlete in the Senior Category. Ayan Mandal of Class IX-D, Ganges House was adjudged the Best Boy Athlete in the Junior Category. N. Sankrit of Class VII-G, Naramada House was declared the Best Boy Athlete in the Sub Junior Category. Sujatha Dhar of Class X-A, Chenab House won the title of Best Girl Athlete in the Senior Category. Nandita Ghosh of Class VIII-D, Narmada House was adjudged the Best Girl Athlete in the Junior Category. Samriddhi Bais of Class VII-H, Kaveri House was declared the Best Girl Athlete in the Sub Junior Category. The Championship Trophy was won by Jhelum House. The other noteworthy awards presented on the occasion were the Best House Trophy for excellence in Curricular and Cocurricular activities which was won by Kaveri House and the Principal’s Gold Medal for the Best All Rounder was awarded to Ashwin S. Pothen of Class XII-G, Jhelum House.

The Pro-Vice Chairman in his address expressed his pleasure at being present on the occasion. He appreciated the field displays and their innovative titles. He also expressed the hope that among the talented youngsters of DPS Bhilai would emerge some Sports Stars of the future and added that hard work and determination were the ways to success in the arena of Sports & Games.

The Chief Guest in his speech praised the dynamism of the Principal, teachers and students in putting up such a wonderful show depicting India’s rich cultural heritage. He appreciated the mass participation on this special occasion. He spoke about the importance of Sports & Games and mentioned India’s success in the Commonwealth as well as Asian Games 2010. He added that children should not become ‘couch potatoes’ but be encouraged to play games. He eulogized the school and appreciated the role of the BSP Management in promoting the institution.

The programme moved towards its finale with the extinguishing of the flame. The Sports Secretaries handed over the flag to the Pro-Vice Chairman. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Vice Principal Mrs. Ranjana Yadav and the National Anthem brought this memorable day to a close.

INTER SCHOOL DRAWING & PAINTING COMPETITION AT DPS BHILAI

An Inter School Drawing and Painting Competition was held on 13th November, 2010 at DPS Risali Sector Campus. The students from Senior Secondary School, Sector-4, Senior Secondary School, Sector-7, Krishna Public School, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Durg, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Durg, Ma Sarda Public School, Sector-9, Shri Shankara Vidyalaya, Sector-6 and the host school DPS Bhilai participated in the same. In order to encourage maximum participation, the students of classes I to XII were divided into five groups. INDUCTION, MONITORING AND MENTORING PROGRAMME OF CBSE,
ORGANISED AT DPS, BHILAI


The Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi organised an Induction Programme for Principals of Newly Affiliated Schools at Delhi Public School Bhilai on 12th October, 2010. The programme was graced by the august presence of Shri Vineet Joshi, I.A.S., Chairman & Secretary, CBSE, New Delhi as Chief Guest. The other officials from CBSE who were present on the occasion were - Dr. (Mrs.) Sadhana Parashar, Head (Innovations & Research), Mrs. Kalpana Kapoor, Principal, Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad & Resource Person and Shri R.P. Singh, Assistant Education Officer, CBSE, New Delhi.

The programme was attended by Principals of 71 schools from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra & Orissa which are affiliated to CBSE. The programme was conducted in two phases – Induction, Monitoring and Mentoring were held in the pre-lunch session and an interaction session with the parents regarding the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, introduced by CBSE was held in the afternoon.

The morning session commenced with the formal welcome of the distinguished guests followed by the traditional ceremony of Lighting the Lamp to lend an auspicious start to the programme. The Principal, Shri M.P. Yadav extended a warm welcome to the elite gathering. The choir of the Primary Wing presented a melodious welcome song.

In his address, the Chairman, CBSE, Shri Vineet Joshi expressed his pleasure at being present on the occasion. He said that the need of the hour for education was to be ‘teacher-student friendly’. He added that for the holistic development of a child’s personality, academic knowledge and an understanding of humane values were necessary. Learning life skills such as problem solving, thinking critically, learning to cooperate and cope with difficult situation was essential so that the child could succeed in life and the new educational reforms were introduced by CBSE keeping this in view.

The post lunch session of Interaction with parents commenced after a formal welcome of the distinguished guests and a musical presentation by the Senior Wing students. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. (Mrs.) Sadhana Parashar acquainted the parents with Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Scheme (CCE) and explained its importance as well as the reasons why this scheme of evaluation and awarding grades was better than the previous system. She also explained school based evaluation and board evaluation in detail. She further elaborated how the FA1, FA2, FA3, FA4 and SA1 and SA2 scheme of evaluation not only tested a child’s academic knowledge but also led to the development of his critical, analytical, problem solving and other life skills which help in the all round development of a child’s personality. She also explained “What CCE was?” and “What CCE was not?”. She informed the parents that they could log on to the CBSE website to get more information on CCE.

The Chairman in his address further elaborated on the importance of CCE and assured the parents that CCE would not dilute the academic standards, rather it would equip the child to face the future with confidence and skills needed for success as he acquired “global skills”. He expressed the hope that the cooperative effort of the board, parents and teachers would ensure that this evaluation pattern was successful as it was the need of the day.

The interaction session enlightened the parents about the CCE and answered all their queries, proving to be an enriching experience for all present. The programme drew to a close with the Vote of Thaks by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Ranjana Yadav and concluded with the National Anthem.

Inter School English Debate Marks Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations at DPS Bhilai

The birth anniversary of the revered ‘Father of the Nation’ was celebrated at DPS Bhilai with an Inter School English Debate. The illustrious Chief Guest to grace the occasion was Shri Subrat Sahoo, I.A.S., Secretary - Sports & Youth Welfare, Culture & Tourism, Religious Trusts & Endowments. The distinguished panel of judges of the debate comprised - Mrs. M. Kannambal, HOD - English, Kalyan College, Bhilai; Mrs. Anita Narula, HOD - English, Bhilai Mahila Mahavidyalaya and Dr. Tapas Mukherjee, Asstt. Professor of English, Govt. College, Bhilai-3.

The topic for the debate was “MODERN TECHNOLOGY HAS DESTROYED THE SOUL OF HUMANITY”. Apart from the host school, the schools which participated in the debate were BSP Sr. Sec. School Sector-X, DAV Public School, Hudco and DAV Public School, ACC Jamul.

The programme commenced with the felicitation of the Chief Guest and judges. The Chief Guest then lighted the ceremonial lamp which was accompanied by the melodious rendition of Gandhiji’s favourite bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To…………” and Ramdhun. The Principal Mr. M.P. Yadav accorded a cordial welcome to the Chief Guest, the judges and other invitees.

The Debate began with the reading out of the rules and regulations. It was a keenly contested ‘Battle of Words’ and revealed the intellectual and oratorical skills of the participants.  At the end of the Debate Mrs. M. Kannambal shared her views with the gathering. She recalled her long and pleasant association with the school. She congratulated all the participants and appreciated their clear ideas, confidence and communicative skills. Expressing her ideas on the topic of the debate, she said that the marvels of technology had entered all walks of life and had even made it possible for man to reach the moon. She added that living in an age of materialism man was gradually losing his values. However, technology was nothing more than the victory of mind over matter. She exhorted the students to follow the ideals of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who is known as the ‘Missile Man’, yet is the epitome of human values.

The results were declared by Mrs. Anita Narula. Speaking in favour of the motion, the first prize was won by Nikhil Dhimole of DPS Bhilai, Aishwarya Sarkar of DAV Public School, Hudco, was awarded the second prize and the third prize went to Shwetha Suresh of BSP Sr. Sec. School, Sector-10. Speaking against the motion, Ashwin S. Pothen of DPS Bhilai won the first prize. The second prize was awarded to Ashutosh Padhi of DAV Public School, Hudco and the third prize went to Sandeep Dey of DAV Public School, Jamul. On the basis of the total points scored DPS Bhilai stood first. However, being the host school it did not compete for the Rolling Shield which was lifted by DAV Public School, Hudco.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest congratulated all the participants. He said that technology was an appreciation of science and should be a slave not a master of man. He added that man was addicted to gadgets and losing his humane touch. He opined that progress could not be delinked from technology and man should continue to progress throughout his entire life or else there would be no progress in the world at all.
 
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Ranjana Yadav, Vice Principal. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
